Unlimited Patience Guide: No Active Spells

A quieter kind of magic.

Unlimited Patience asks you to tidy the whole house without casting active spells. The developer explicitly allows charms, the broom and the bell. That gives you useful tools for the challenge without turning it into a completely unassisted cleanup.

What is allowed in a no-spells run?

Tool or actionHow to treat it
CharmsAllowed according to the developer. Read the Charms tab separately from the Spells tab.
BroomAllowed according to the developer. See our flight unlock guide for the Broom Closet sequence.
Summoning bellAllowed according to the developer. It costs currency and summons random floor items; see the bell guide.
Active spellsDo not cast them during the challenge. The ledger lists Beckon, Glimmer, Homeward, Stackweaver and Amplify Familiar under Spells.
Buying spells or undoing a castNot established by the developer reply we checked. Do not assume a purchase, reload or restart restores eligibility.

The distinction is between permitted tools and active spell casts. Amplify Familiar appears in the Spells tab, so do not treat boosting the cat as an exception just because charms and the broom are allowed.

Before you start sorting

Decide whether this session is for Unlimited Patience or for experimenting with spells. Our conservative recommendation is a dedicated attempt where you deliberately avoid spell casts from the beginning. This is a planning choice, not evidence that a particular new-game option or reset is required.

Inspect your current controls before working near spell shortcuts. Make sure you can tell manual pickup, placement, inventory selection and ordinary stacking controls apart from spell activation. Use the bindings shown by your own game; the reference recording predates later control fixes.

Use readable inventory settings so the selected item’s category is easy to see. If you need help with the display, start with inventory and visual settings.

A practical manual sorting loop

  1. Choose a small work area. Pick a bookcase, cabinet or nearby group of objects rather than carrying unrelated items around the house.
  2. Select an item and read its category. Use the label to identify its destination before collecting more of the same kind.
  3. Gather a manageable batch by hand. Leave enough attention for checking the selected object rather than relying on a matching-item spell.
  4. Place the batch manually. Review the shelf and room indicators, then continue with the next recognizable type.
  5. Review the area before moving on. Check the floor and nearby furniture for objects you passed over.

This loop replaces the gathering and shelving work that Beckon and Homeward would otherwise help with. It is our suggested way to reduce repeated decisions, not a measured fastest route.

Use the Library category guide, Apothecary guide and wand-cabinet guide when an object is ambiguous.

Use the permitted tools for specific bottlenecks

Read charm descriptions and choose improvements that address the part of manual sorting you find slow. Permission to use charms does not mean every charm is equally useful when you are avoiding the spells it might enhance.

Once flight is unlocked, the developer’s allowance means you do not need to exclude the broom from this plan. For elusive loose objects, consider the bell after checking its price. Because its selection is random, it is better treated as another search tool than as a guaranteed way to retrieve one named item.

Keep checking the room rather than assuming a tool has finished the task. The completion checklist gives a systematic second pass.

Achievements to leave for a spell-enabled session

Power Overwhelming requires amplifying your familiar, and Perfectly Balanced requires a 50-item stack from one Stack spell. Those goals involve spell use, so our recommendation is to handle them outside a no-active-spells attempt. The full achievement checklist separates those conditions from room cleanup and collection goals.

Do not read this as a verified minimum-run count. We have not established which achievements can be combined in every save or a complete optimal route.

What if you cast a spell accidentally?

Record what happened and check your Steam unlock status when the house is finished. We do not have verified evidence that reloading, leaving the room, buying an upgrade or resetting one setting erases a cast from the game’s tracking. Avoid relying on an untested recovery method.

Likewise, a nearly complete shelf counter is not proof of the achievement. The requirement concerns the whole house and spell use. Use the actual achievement notification or Steam status as the outcome, rather than this page’s personal checklist.

The achievement condition and allowed tools were checked against Steam’s official achievement list and a developer reply on October 24, 2026. The sorting routine below is editorial advice, not a completed no-spells test. We have not verified recovery after an accidental cast or the internal save tracking.
